The artist’s creative journey began with an enduring interest in human longing and the search for salvation. Watching a documentary that featured Buddhist monks performing three thousand deep bows as a form of self-reflection and spiritual practice prompted him to contemplate why people persist in such repetitive acts of prayer and devotion.
Through his exploration of emptiness, introspection, and the meaning of heartfelt wishes, the figure of the “praying person” gradually emerged as a central motif in his work.
Another significant point of departure came from his graduation project, during which he observed people gathering at sunrise on New Year’s Day, each offering prayers and wishes for the year ahead.
His repetitive brushstrokes and layered compositions symbolize both the process of meditative practice and the act of prayer itself, visually expressing human devotion and the possibility of healing. Moving beyond mere representation, his work functions as a space for inner reflection and spiritual resonance. The Praying People series serves as a poetic metaphor for the hope, earnest aspirations, and potential for spiritual redemption that reside within the human condition.
Blending Korean spirituality with contemporary abstraction, Park’s works transcend religious boundaries and resonate deeply across cultures.
